What Is the NHS Pharmacy First Service?

The NHS Pharmacy First Service lets you get treatment for seven common minor conditions directly from a trained community pharmacist, without booking a GP appointment first. That is where the name comes from. Pharmacy first, not GP first.

Launched across England on 31 January 2024, the service is available to patients registered with a GP practice in England. Pharmacists can assess your symptoms and supply prescription-only medicines, including antibiotics and antivirals, where clinically appropriate.

Signs & Symptoms of Common Minor Conditions

Not sure if your condition qualifies? Know the signs.

  1. Earache (1–17) — ear pain, pressure, hearing loss
  2. Sore Throat (5+) — pain, redness, difficulty swallowing
  3. Sinusitis (12+) — facial pain, congestion, headaches
  4. Impetigo (1+) — red sores or blisters that crust
  5. Infected Insect Bites (1+) — redness, swelling, pus
  6. Shingles (18+) — burning, tingling, blistering rash
  7. UTI (women 16–64) — burning, frequent urges to urinate

Walk in, and we will assess you the same day.

  • Walk-in patients during opening hours

I use this pharmacy regularly and every time the service is friendly, polite and efficient. The interior is well laid-out, well stocked, bright, modern and functional. It has everything one would expect or hope for in a pharmacy. Well done, team. Keep up the good work.

A really helpful local pharmacy. They offer a free delivery service, which makes getting prescriptions more accessible. The staff are always friendly, helpful and professional, and the pharmacy itself is clean, tidy and has plenty of seating if you need to wait. It’s only been in the neighbourhood for about a year, so not everyone knows about it yet, but I’d definitely recommend giving it a try – you won’t be disappointed.
