What Is Impetigo?
Impetigo is a bacterial skin infection. It is very common, especially in young children. But adults can get it too.
It spreads easily. The infection causes red sores and blisters. These burst and form a yellow-brown crust. The skin can feel itchy and sore.
Bacteria cause impetigo. They enter through cuts, scrapes, or insect bites. Two types of bacteria are usually responsible: Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes.
The good news? Impetigo treatment works well. With proper care, it clears up quickly.
Symptoms of Impetigo
How do you know it’s impetigo? Look for these signs:
- Red sores: They start small and burst quickly.
- Honey-coloured crust: A golden crust forms over the sores.
- Itching: The affected area often feels itchy.
- Blisters: Some types cause fluid-filled blisters.
- Spread: Sores appear around the nose, mouth, and on the hands and arms.
Symptoms usually show up 4 to 10 days after exposure. If you spot these signs, seek treatment for impetigo in Manchester right away.

Frequently Asked Questions
1.How long does impetigo take to clear?
With treatment, impetigo usually clears in 7 to 10 days. Sores start healing within a few days of starting antibiotics.
2.Is impetigo contagious?
Yes, very. It spreads through direct contact with sores or contaminated items like towels and bedding. Good hygiene stops the spread.
3.Can my child go to school with impetigo?
No. Children should stay home until sores are dry and healed. This is usually 48 hours after starting treatment.
4.Do I need antibiotics?
Yes, for most cases. Antibiotic cream or tablets kill the bacteria and speed up healing. Our clinician will prescribe the right one.
5.When should I see a doctor?
See a doctor if the infection spreads, gets worse, or if you develop a fever. We’ll refer you if needed.

I use this pharmacy regularly and every time the service is friendly, polite and efficient. The interior is well laid-out, well stocked, bright, modern and functional. It has everything one would expect or hope for in a pharmacy. Well done, team. Keep up the good work.

A really helpful local pharmacy. They offer a free delivery service, which makes getting prescriptions more accessible. The staff are always friendly, helpful and professional, and the pharmacy itself is clean, tidy and has plenty of seating if you need to wait. It’s only been in the neighbourhood for about a year, so not everyone knows about it yet, but I’d definitely recommend giving it a try – you won’t be disappointed.
