What Is a Chest Infection?
A chest infection affects your lungs or airways. It often develops after a cold or flu.
There are two main types:
- Viral chest infections – Caused by viruses. They usually clear up with rest within 7 to 10 days.
- Bacterial chest infections – These may need antibiotics. Quick treatment helps prevent complications.
The most common chest infections are bronchitis (affecting the airways) and pneumonia (affecting the air sacs in the lungs).
Symptoms of a Chest Infection
You may have a chest infection if you experience:
- A persistent cough, with or without mucus
- Chest pain or tightness
- Shortness of breath
- Wheezing when breathing
- Fever or chills
- Feeling very tired or weak
- Headache and muscle aches
- Loss of appetite
Symptoms can start suddenly. They may get worse over a few days. If symptoms feel severe or last longer than expected, seek help promptly.

I use this pharmacy regularly and every time the service is friendly, polite and efficient. The interior is well laid-out, well stocked, bright, modern and functional. It has everything one would expect or hope for in a pharmacy. Well done, team. Keep up the good work.

A really helpful local pharmacy. They offer a free delivery service, which makes getting prescriptions more accessible. The staff are always friendly, helpful and professional, and the pharmacy itself is clean, tidy and has plenty of seating if you need to wait. It’s only been in the neighbourhood for about a year, so not everyone knows about it yet, but I’d definitely recommend giving it a try – you won’t be disappointed.
